Synopsis
Gravetye Manor, West Sussex in spring and early summer, fabulous planting in the 'cottage style' by Tom Coward, head gardener. Gravetye was the home of William Robinson, the famous and hugely influential gardener who, alongside Gertrude Jekyll, revolutionised the Victorian gardening world. The planting is informal, cottage style planting with plants allowed to self seed, and billow across paths. The features of the garden, the paths, pergola, summerhouse are that are rustic and simple and at this time of year, the tulips and other early summer annuals and perennials are taking centre stage.
