Synopsis
The walled garden has a grid-like layout of immense clarity defined by hornbeam hedging and clipped evergreens. Some areas of planting have been inspired by visits to Hermanshof and the Weihenstephan trial garden near Munich. In September these beds are full of intense colour as scarlet salvias, purple Verbena bonariensis, the wispy blonde tresses of Stipa tenuissima and deep purple, crinkled foliage of Kale 'Redbor' mingle beneath dusky skies. Simpler areas of planting use large blocks of a single plant including low grass Seslaria autumnalis carpeting the ground around slender pyramids of clipped yew, while a curtain of Miscanthus sinensis 'Flamingo' draws an arabesque upon the grass framed by a low hedge. Vibrant and stylish with lots of ideas for extending colour and interest well into autumn, with plant combinations to die for.
